Buffing Hardwood Floors with a Floor Buffer

Hard wood floors are assets in a home that add beauty if well treated but can be a real embarrassment if they are not taken care of appropriately. One of the ways in which hardwood floors have to be treated is cleaning and doing the ultimate buffing procedure to give your floor that glossy attractive look. Buffing hardwood floors is an easy task, only if you know how to do it and you have the right appliances. The things that you will need to accomplish the task at hand include a mop, hardwood floor cleaner and a floor buffer. These can be locally sourced or purchased from your local utility shop at a very manageable and pocket-friendly cost.

Start off by cleaning the floor with your hardwood floor cleaner of choice. Mix the cleaner with some warm water in the proportions instructed by the manufacture and spread it with a mop on the floor as you gently rub to clean the floor. It is very important that you clean the floor thoroughly because buffing hardwood floors that are dirty will be a waste of time.

After your hardwood floor is dry from the previous cleaning and you have applied the right buffing wax, prepare your floor buffer by laying it flat on the floor so that you can attach lambswool buffing attachment. This is achieved by loosening the nut in the middle of the pad that is on the bottom of the machine with a wrench. You then should be able to attach your new attachment and tie it in place.

When all is set and ready, plug in the buffer and turn it on. You should be ready with a steady grip on the handle since the machine will tend to swivel away. Learning to accommodate it motion rather than controlling it will make the task of buffing hardwood floors much easier.

In addition to this, you should avoid adding extra pressure onto the machine so as to make it press more firmly onto the floor. Even though this will create the notion that you are doing a better job, the machines weight is enough to create the needed pressure and any added weight might ruin the machine, the floor or your energy banks for nothing.

For best results, start buffing at the middle of the floor and let the machine do the work for you as you steer it gently from side to side. This procedure should be repeated each time you reach the wall until the whole floor is covered. When you are satisfied with your efforts in buffing hardwood floors in your house, turn the buffer off as you hold it steady until it has stopped completely.
