Cloth Car Wash

Money is tight for a lot of schools and organizations these days, just as it is for many families. Funding for programs and activities is at an all time low, leaving many to seek out donations for themselves. Corporations and other groups still give money to help ailing schools and programs, but many are left to find their own resources. There are many ways that groups can raise funds. One fun way to make money for your group is to have a car wash. A good, old fashioned cloth car wash can bring in some money and be a lot of fun too.

If you are going to hold a cloth car wash, you can charge whatever you think would be best or you can simply ask for donations. Most people coming through are aware that you are raising money and will give what they can. There is no harm in setting a price though, so you can be sure you are getting the cash you need to keep your group or organization alive. You are going to have to get some supplies, but that should be a small part of your budget. You may find some local stores will sponsor your group with free supplies, which is always a huge help.

A cloth car wash is one in which people do the work. You can use hoses, but you are not just putting a car through a building that does all of the work. You can give special attention to each car, which is why so many still love to have their cars done this way. You can use sponges, but special cloth is the way to go. Also, look for a cleaner that is safe for the environment, as it will be going into the ground and the sewer system and back into your water treatment plant. It also may just go into a water source. There are great cleaners out there that will work well.

The type of cloth you are looking for for your cloth car wash is a microfiber or lint-free variety. They can be one in the same. The reason these are great for car washing is because they are softer and less abrasive than a sponge and will not leave lint behind. You can use these for washing the car and you can also use some for drying. These can be washed time and time again and saved for future events so you do not have to restock. The best ones can be used for windows as well, leaving them clean and streak free.

Other supplies for your cloth car wash would be buckets, hoses or water source, and of course, signage to advertise your event. You can contact local papers and even other media sources to see if they offer free advertisement for non-profit events. Most will help out in some way. The more exposure you get the more people that will show up. You can even offer coffee or water for a decent price to make even more money. That requires more investment, but generally drinks sell well, especially on a hot day or on a crisp morning if you are starting out early.
