My Favorite Classical Music Composer

When I was a young boy, my grandmother introduced me to classical music. I have loved it ever since, and there are a number of composers that I really respect and admire. There is one, however, that I would have to say is my favorite classical music composer of all time, and that is Sergei Rachmaninoff. I am really not sure what exactly it is, but there is just something about his music that reaches the depths of my soul and inspires me.

When I was a young teenager, I was in my high school band. I was always fascinated by what went into composing music, and at one point, I was quite certain that I would be a classical music composer myself. I listened to all different kinds of classical music, but one composer kept sticking out to me over and over again, and that was Rachmaninoff. I think the reason for that is that I fell in love with one his pieces of music, which, outside of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, is probably the most beautiful piece of classical music ever written.

I also remember listening to a piece of music of his called The Isle of the Dead. It was very sad-sounding, and I remember falling in love with it from the beginning. I don't what it was about Rachmaninoff, but there was an authenticity to his music that made him favorite classical music composer, because I did not see that in some of the other great composers, or at least not to his level. It seemed that Rachmaninoff's music reflects his mood, along with the country and climate in which he spent his formative years, and it is something that I found very appealing.

One of the funnier episodes from my childhood was when the band director went around the room and asked us all who are favorite classical music composer was. I answered Rachmaninoff, and she actually grimaced when I said so. I could not help but laugh a little bit, and she said she did not mean to groan, but said that Rachmaninoff was one of the more depressing composers she had ever encountered. I very astutely quipped that that was what I liked about him, and everybody laughed.

There are a number of reasons that Rachmaninoff is my favorite classical music composer. I love almost everything he ever wrote, I think that he was probably the greatest composer of the 20th century, or at least one of them, and to me, he was the genuine article. I will spend hours at a time listening to his songs, and no matter what is playing, I never grow tired of his music.
