Looking for a Cheap Pregnancy Test

A regular drugstore pregnancy test kit can cost anywhere between $10 and $15 a unit. If you just had to buy one a couple of times, the $10 would really not be much of a burden. The problem is though that we often need to try a pregnancy test 10 or 20 times on our way to becoming pregnant. It's enough to make you think at some point – could one of those cheap pregnancy test kits be just as good as the expensive ones? How do you make your mind up here?

Basically, home pregnancy tests all function in the same way. When you pee on the stick, a chemical coating on the stick reacts by changing color when it sees a certain pregnancy-related hormone in the pee. These tests are pretty accurate – up to 97% in most cases. But you do need to keep in mind that when these tests fail, usually, they fail by coming up with a false negative. Which means that they can tell you that you're not pregnant when you really are.

If most home pregnancy tests are built the same way more or less, why is there such a wide variance in the pricing? Well, for the most part, the difference in pricing can be attributed to how some companies will simply charge more for the brand name. If you really would prefer to buy a brand like First Response, you would prefer them because they've spent a lot of money advertising their name and becoming well known. You are in fact paying more for the advertising budget than for their pregnancy test production budget.

There's a great way to go with a good brand name and still not pay for the brand name – you could go with a store brand. Walmart, for instance, has its own brand of pregnancy test that it sells under the store brand name Equate. Equate is a cheap pregnancy test that is produced to high standards. It's just that Walmart doesn't charge a lot of money for an advertising budget. They may even source their  pregnancy tests from regular brands – only, with the name removedrebadged.

Of course, their are lots of regular ways to buy cheap pregnancy tests too. You could try a bit of extreme couponing. Which is to say, that you could look for coupons from the store, the manufacturer and other sources to all apply to the one purchase. When you go to a store like Walgreens that often has sales on pregnancy test kits and apply all those coupons, you could get these very cheap.

In your enthusiasm to buy cheap, don't forget that pregnancy test kits have a very limited shelf life. You don't want to buy something that's going to expire in 10 days.
