A Dog Playpen to Grow With Your Dog

Dogs and puppies are meant to be energetic, playful, curious and totally uncontrollable. That's why we love them. And yet, the kind of homes that most dog owners give their beloved pets are completely unsuited to this kind of character. Living in apartments and small houses, pets just find themselves locked up all day, all alone and with no way to run around and have fun. Which is where the dog playpen comes in.

Now you do want to let your puppy or dog have a lot of fun jumping about and doing what dogs like to do. Around your average home, that kind of behavior will only break stuff, or your dog will just get himself hurt. Buy an enclosure to put your dog in so that he has all the space he wants to do his thing, and you never have to worry about any injuries or any destroyed property. A dog playpen is actually the same thing as a children's playpen. You get either kind of equipment for the same purpose – to take a body with more energy than sense and to keep them safe when they play and have fun.

The market is just overrun with great dog playpen models. You just need to know how to choose one.

The thing about most dog playpen models that they make today, is that they build them to be expandable. You don't just buy an enclosure and that's that. You can start off with something small when your pet is small and cute, and you can buy add on enclosures to expand the unit to whatever size you want as time goes on. You can get ones that are made of plastic or other soft material. These are built so that you can just fold your dog playpen up and take it with you anywhere you're going with your dog. You can even buy a full metal unit that stays put.

Now you're probably going to notice at some point that they use the term "exercise pen" as a substitute for the term "playpen". This is not to make you think though that you could just get one of these and you never have to take your dog out on a walk again. They only allow enough exercise if your dog is tiny enough that even a six-foot space might be enough for.

If you are buying an indoor dog playpen, do remember that these don't come with floors. You can't just leave your puppy in there and think that anything that happens in the pen stays in the pen. Anything that happens in there actually seeps out. Ue these as they were meant to be used, and playpens can be very useful, indeed.
