Arts and Crafts Projects Are Great For Kids

Each summer, my wife and I send our children to summer camp for a few weeks. It is a great experience for them to get out and experience new things, and it was a great opportunity for my wife and I to get some alone time. One thing that strikes me the most about their summer camps is all of the arts and crafts projects the kids do and how much they seem to love them. I think that they are a great idea for children, and I always look forward to seeing what they have created each and every year.

One year in particular, my son was very proud of his project. The instructor had decided that the youngsters would create their own miniature log cabins out of milk cartons. This particular instructor was always coming up with clever ideas for arts and crafts projects, and my son knew immediately that he was really going to do it up. He made logs out of little rolled-up pieces of brown construction paper and glued it to the side of box. He glued pea gravel to the side of the box for the chimney, and made the actual chimney out of straw. When he came home and showed me, I was so impressed and made sure I told him what a good job he had done.

My daughter, on the other hand, said that one of her favorite arts and crafts projects was one where she knitted yarn into an Afghan blanket. She worked on it for more than a week, and when it was done, she came home and gave it to her mother. I never will forget the tender look my wife gave my daughter at that moment, and it was very sweet and touching. My wife still has the blanket five years later and drapes it over a pull-out bed we have in our guest bedroom.

When I think of all of the arts and crafts projects they ever worked on, the one that strikes me the most was working farming community they built together. It was amazing, with buildings created to scale and people scattered throughout the entire scene. It really did feel like an actual farming community and it looked fantastic. I told my wife that I was not sure what made me more proud, the fact that it was so realistic or the fact that they worked on the project together.

Arts and crafts projects are a great way for young people to spend their time, and it allows them to feels a sense of accomplishment. I think it also helps them to learn to work together, and the benefits are incredible.
