Can You Try Alcohol Detox at Home

Before you begin alcohol detox at home or anywhere else, it would be a good idea if you at first, understood what the basic deal was. They call it "detox" because when you drink, it puts toxins and other harmful substances in your body. The detox process tries to cleanse your system of said toxins. For some reason, people tend to confuse detox with rehab and de-addiction. Perhaps they do this because all three words are used very often in the popular press and no one really explains what they mean. And we just interpret those words in any way we will. In truth, the detox process is simply to cleanse your system. It doesn't cure you of an addiction problem or rehabilitate you in any way. Those are completely different processes that are also necessary. You could actually perform alcohol detox at home. And you wouldn't really need help from a professional.

It is perhaps just the de-addiction process that needs any intervention by a specialist. And that's just because the addiction process is more about treating your mind for psychological dependency on a certain drug. That would be too difficult to do at home.

Alcohol detox at home is certainly possible without any real intervention by a professional. But that's no reason to completely go all the way with no input from one. Since the detox process can cause some pretty serious withdrawal symptoms, it would be a good idea to get a doctor on board at least at first, to see how well a plan like this might go.

The doctor can determine if the case of addiction in question may be too serious to attempt to take care of at home. If the doctor does feel though that the problem is too serious – that the patient is in such a serious state of addiction that his body would go into a state of shock if it was deprived of alcohol – then, it could be a good idea to simply go to the conventional way and leave this to the professionals. With a lesser addiction than this, alcohol detox at home could be perfectly possible.

So you're pretty clear now how the toxic effects of a moderate alcohol habit could easily be dealt with at home. The first thing you need to do is to make sure that your body stays hydrated. You'd be surprised how many different kinds of health problems can be dealt with just by making sure that your body has a dependable enough supply of water. Just an abundance of water makes sure that the body has what it needs to flush toxins out. You do remember that this is a detox procedure that we are interested in here.

As much water as you take in, you want to find new ways to get it all out. The more water that leaves your system, the more you flush toxins out. A good bit of exercise and good hot baths as often as you can manage that get you sweating a lot, are an excellent detox idea.

And finally, do pay attention to your diet. A diet that's rich in green leafy vegetables and bright colored fruit will help your body keep its supply of nutrients intact.
