With two children ages 10 and eight years, my wife and I are constantly looking for ways to keep them entertained. They definitely have their fair share of toys and board games, but we have also found it very handy to have arts and crafts supplies around the house as well. Most of the time, they love to play with them, it teaches them to be creative, and it is a good way to give them an activity to do that will keep them occupied and relatively quiet at the same time.
Some of the more important arts and crafts supplies to have around include construction paper, glue, scissors and writing implements. Nine times out of 10, this will take care of all of their needs for the day. My wife and I make regular trips to the dollar store to stock up on these supplies so that they are around whenever our children want to use them, which is usually on a regular basis.
My daughter likes to draw pictures with her time, and my son prefers to create paper mache objects using the arts and crafts supplies that we provide. Both of them will give us their final product, and while we probably have about 500 different projects they have worked on over the years, we always accept them graciously and tell them what a great job they did.
We also try to get them to try new things from time to time, so we will get different arts and crafts supplies like popsicle sticks and yarn and on and on an on. My wife will even go to a local hobby store and pick up supplies, and we always find ways to use them.
My son decided the other day to make an actual miniature replica of our home using the arts and crafts supplies we had bought for him, and it turned out pretty well. We had even gotten him some paint so that he could make it as realistic as possible, and he did a very good job!
Arts and crafts supplies are always useful to have around the house in our home. Our children love them, and they use them all of the time. I also like the idea of them using their imaginations and creating something, instead of spending all day in front of the television or playing video games. Most important of all, they are happy, which means that we are happy. They have also both commented on how when they go to school, their art teacher does not have to show them how to use any of the supplies, because they already know how. That makes us proud!
