Making a Career For Yourself in Professional Web Design

If you've spent the past few years impressing yourself and him your friends with how you can make magic on the Internet spinning out beautifully designed websites, it's possible that at some point, you could consider entering professional web design and really making a career out of your talents. That's certainly a great idea – there is always plenty of demand for top notch professional web design skills.

Before you decide to pursue web design is a career though, there are a few things that you want to make your mind up about first. For instance, would you like to work for a company as an employee, or would you like to work freelance? Either kind of choice could be a valid one.

Check any freelancing website out, and you'll quickly notice that the web design field attracts just about thousands of hopful designers, all looking for their next gig. Yes, it can be somewhat difficult. But many people prefer this. They feel that it gives them the freedom to go after projects that really inspire them. If they worked for a company, they would have to only accept the kind of projects that the company got, and that the boss decided to assign to them.

Also, when you work at a company, they do make sure that you are fully occupied with company-related work most of the time. If you really feel that you should only work part-time and learn to keep up with all the advances in the business the rest of the time, a full-time job may not be for you. Companies also happen to be very rigid about how if you've just come out of college, they can't trust you with any good work at first. It takes them a very long time at the web design companies to really begin to trust someone. When you work for yourself, you try to go get a couple of freelance gigs and build your resume up very quickly.

On the other hand, working at a company can appeal to young web designers for the way the job lets them be around very capable professionals. In a field that's as fast-moving as web design, you don't learn as much in school as you to on the job. Seen this way, working at a business might be a good idea.

No one really says that you shouldn't work freelance on the side when you work for a company. You really could do this, and have the best of both worlds.
